Volunteer roles

Thank you for considering volunteering with us. Here is a list of all volunteer roles within the Foodbank with an outline description of what the role involves
Guidelines and training will be given for all aspects of the work.

Helping in the warehouse and/or driving

You will join team members involved in sorting, weighing and stacking, donated food. The team makes up stock orders and may deliver boxes to the foodbank centres.

If you offer to deliver or collect food using your own vehicle, you will need to inform your car insurance company that you are volunteering in this capacity.

We also have a delivery van.

Helping in a Foodbank Centre

Meeting clients and giving out food parcels. Have an informal chat with clients over a cup of tea, to discuss their situation and  signposting to supporting agencies. Being the welcoming face of Foodbank, this role demands empathy, listening skills and a real desire to help. Requires approx 3-4 hour weekly commitment.

Supermarket Collections

Collections will be arranged periodically in the major supermarkets in the Deal Area. We need 4 people in each team for a 2 hour slot x 4 sessions covering from  9am till 5pm at the Broadstairs Tesco Outlet; to give ‘shopping lists’ to the public in the store; to be friendly and explain who we are; to collect the donated food when customers leave the store and to deliver the donations back to the warehouse.

Fundraising/One off Events

To organise fund-raising events like meals, concerts, sponsored activities such as walks, keep fit or other easy ‘sports’ related activities. They may be linked with churches, community groups or in the wider community. Fresh ideas welcomed.

Agency Coordinator

Responsible for maintaining good working relationships with our front line agencies who distribute our foodbank vouchers. Mainly contact through telephone, email and occasional meetings. You need to have good communication skills, computer literacy and be part of the Operations Team.

Voucher coordinator

Foodbanks work with front line agencies who in turn refer clients to foodbanks. Some foodbanks have over 100 referral partners and in this role you will be coordinating the issuing and distribution of vouchers to these agencies. Once the vouchers are redeemed the data they contain needs to be added to our central database. Full training and support is available.
