Deal Foodbank Current Operations Update

Demand for support is sadly rising, not just for food but also for help with fuel costs, and simply keeping warm.

We are very lucky to have a lot of supporters/donors both individuals and organisations.

Some of the current ways that we are able to support people are …

Trussell Trust Winter Grant

To be used specifically to enable those in need of warmth. Today, the first delivery of 20 slow cookers and10 heaters arrived for distribution. Also we have purchased and distributed winter duvets, body warmers, thermal vests, and throws.

Household Support Fund.

We will shortly be receiving an extremely generous third grant through DDC, which enables us to continue meeting household needs.

For example a referral reached us today for two elderly sisters, rehoused after their previous accommodation was condemned. They have nothing in their kitchen apart from a kettle, so we can provide a cooker and a washing machine, plus other smaller kitchen items.

We also received a generous grant enabling us to work with Citizens Advice, so that one of their advisers is at our two distribution centres each week, to follow up urgent issues, and from next week, clients from the rural areas to whom we deliver, can also contact her directly by phone.

Our two distribution centres are open Tuesday 12-2, St Richards Church, 165 Mill Hill, Deal, CT14 9JR, and Friday 10 -12, Trinity Church, Union Road, Deal, CT14 6EA.

Vouchers must be produced and are obtainable from agencies such as Bechange, CA, Early Help, schools and direct from our office.

The Mobile Foodbank van continues to go out to the rural area twice a week.

We are also doing home deliveries to families that cannot get to our Mobile Foodbank or distribution centre sessions.
