Trussell Trust wins OFM outstanding achievement award

15th October 2017

Trussell Trust isn’t entirely thrilled at having won Observer Food Monthly’s Outstanding Achievement for 2017. “Obviously, awards can be quite difficult, can’t they?” says Mark Ward, the charity’s interim CEO. “… it’s terrible and it’s not terrible because it  means now there are 300 places where if somebody’s struggling they can go to. So we wish we didn’t have to do it, but it is lovely to have recognition of the service that has been put in place.”

Between April 2016 and March 2017, Trussell handed out a record 1.2 million parcels from its 400-plus food banks (which, in turn, supply almost 1,400 distribution centres around the UK). Over the summer, demand became so high that 42 of its food banks began to run low on stock and had to make urgent appeals for food donations.
