1.6 million food parcels given last year

25th April 2019

The Trussell Trust today reports that a record 1.6 million food parcels were given out last year, more than 500,000 to children. These shocking statistics accurately reflect what we see here in Deal and surrounding villages.

Project coordinator Sheila Ward said: “The latest news that Foodbanks across the country gave out 1.6 million food parcels last year is shocking and reflects exactly our situation here in Deal. We are helping more and more people and are desperately short of tinned food. Thank you to all the people who donate to us. We could not help the most vulnerable people in Deal and villages without you.”

Deal Foodbank is especially short of the following:

  • Tinned: vegetables, fish, fruit, custard
  • Ketchup and Brown Sauce
  • UHT milk
  • Squash
  • Soup

Deal Foodbank volunteers will be at Sainsbury’s on Thursday 2nd, Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th May collection donations. “Please come and say hello and find out more about our work and what donations we need,” said Sheila.
